Here’s what we’ve got for you this week:

The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off on June 11 and Munich has already sorted out the rules for watching it outside. Bars, restaurants, and beer gardens can show matches in outdoor areas until 1am, then again from 6am. A few spots with stricter noise limits still cap at 10pm, so worth checking before you show up.

When there's no match on, there's a lake to jump in. Munich has more FREE swimming spots than most cities its size – from Feringasee in Unterföhring and Riemer See in the east to the Isar at the Flaucher in Sendling and Lußsee in the northwest. Here are the best ones so you know exactly where to go.

3 bits of news

A new train is coming to Munich in 2028

FlixTrain is adding Munich to its network from 2028 and it's a homecoming. The company was founded here in 2013, and it's returning with brand new high-speed trains capable of 230km/h, built by Siemens in Munich-Allach. The total order comes to €2.4 billion.

The trains run on the proven Talgo 230 model, already operating across Europe. They come with barrier-free access, high-performance WiFi, and an upgraded seating concept. Not a prototype but a tested platform with Munich-specific improvements.

For passengers, this means real competition for Deutsche Bahn on long-distance routes out of Munich. Whether fares stay low once the novelty wears off is another question but more options are never bad.

Munich's guided tram tour is back every weekend

To mark 150 years of trams in Munich, something we covered earlier this year – the Münchentram is back after a seven-year break. Last seen in 2019, it returns starting May 23 with a guided city tour every Saturday, Sunday, and public holiday until October 4. A city guide narrates live throughout the 50-minute ride.

The route runs from Sendlinger Tor through Isartor and up to the Maximilianeum, then along Theatinerstraße to Karlsplatz, north to Schwabing, and back again. The full loop passes through some of the most storied neighborhoods in the city. Note: the route changes slightly in May and July due to construction.

Capacity is 50 seats per trip. Tickets can be booked online, with a limited number available on the day. Worth booking ahead if you're planning a weekend visit with family or guests in town.

A new German course built for complete beginners

If you are still at square one with German, DeutschMeister A1 is worth knowing about. The course was developed by Eva-Maria Schinko, a sworn translator and founder of LiA in Bavaria, and takes complete beginners to A1 level. It's self-paced, works on any device, and is available worldwide.

The course holds ZFU certification, a quality seal from Germany's state authority for distance learning. That means it has been formally vetted for content and structure.

Three plans are available: solo self-study, group sessions with community access, or one-on-one coaching with Eva-Maria directly. Not sure if it's the right fit? A free demo is available with no credit card required.

Investors see ANOTHER return from Masterworks (!!!!)

That’s 6 sales in 7 months. 29 all time. And the performance?

16.5%, 17.6%, and 17.8%, net annualized returns on sold works held longer than one year (See all 29 at Masterworks.com)

It’s not from stocks, private equity, or real estate… it’s from contemporary and post war art. Crazy, right?

With Masterworks, you don’t need to be a BILLIONAIRE to invest in multi-million dollar art anymore.

Historically, the segment overall has had attractive appreciation and low correlation to stocks.*

Masterworks targets works featuring legends like Banksy, Basquiat, and Picasso, identifying what they believe to have significant long-term appreciation potential, not just at the artist level but at the level of individual artworks.

As one of the largest players in the art market, with $1.3 billion invested over 500 artworks, they pass critical advantages through to their 70,000+ members to add art to their portfolios strategically.

Caribbean Carnival comes to Munich this June

Munich Carnival runs June 4 to 7, bringing four days of soca, costumes, parade energy, and Caribbean culture to the city. Inspired by the Carnival of Trinidad and Tobago, it spans multiple venues across Munich: from Hirschgarten in Neuhausen to Au-Haidhausen with something happening every day and most nights.

The lineup covers a lot of ground – opening parties, a tram party rolling through the city, a rooftop party, a dancehall-meets-soca night, and a full road parade to close it out.

Workshops, movement sessions, and cultural programming run throughout the weekend. This is Munich's answer to Berlin's Karneval der Kulturen.

Mo's Kitchen Foodtruck

Mo's Kitchen is a halal smash burger truck parked in Pasing, and it punches well above its weight for a food truck. The beef is grass-fed Irish, buns are brioche and everything is cooked to order. The menu is simple: burgers, sides and drinks.

The regulars go for the Trüffel Burger with parmesan and truffle mayo, or the Chili Cheese with jalapeño cheese sauce. The Burger of the Month right now is the I Love Italia: mozzarella, semi-dried tomatoes, and a pistachio basil mayo that sounds like it shouldn't work but does. Vegetarian options and chicken burgers on Sundays round things out.

It's a food truck, so the vibe is casual and the lines can move fast. Also available on Uber Eats if Pasing feels like a stretch.
