3 bits of news
Buses and trams shut down for 2 days
Munich commuters, brace yourselves: the Verdi union is calling a two-day warning strike in local public transport on Friday and Saturday (February 27&28). Subways, trams, and city-operated buses will be severely limited, while S-Bahn, regional trains, and privately operated bus lines continue as usual. This is the third warning strike in the current round of wage negotiations affecting roughly 9,000 transport employees across Munich and other Bavarian cities.
Only a fraction of buses will run, and tram service depends on which drivers show up. Road traffic is likely to slow to a crawl as frustrated commuters take to cars. The strike spans multiple cities, including Nuremberg, Augsburg, Regensburg, and Ingolstadt, hitting 13 Bavarian towns in total.
Verdi is demanding a pay increase of €668.75 per month and shorter weekly working hours. They also insist that negotiations have stalled, and employees deserve recognition for the financial and workload pressures they face.

Not yet 18? You can vote anyway
Munich’s youngest residents are getting a say this month. The U18 election runs until this Friday, February 27, letting everyone under 18 cast a mock vote for mayor, city councillors, and local district leaders. Think of it as a rehearsal for the real thing – but with a serious chance to make your voice heard.
Polling stations are everywhere: schools, youth centers, libraries, and even outdoors in pedestrian zones via moveable polling/info stations. The Children’s and Youth Council building on Landschaftstraße is open on Thursday, Feb 26, 2–4:30pm, and the main council chamber at the town hall is ready for voters on Friday, Feb 27, 1–6pm. There will be workshops, panel discussions, and plenty of opportunities to ask questions and learn how local government works.
The goal is to give young people a taste of politics, spark conversations about the issues that matter, and show that age isn’t a barrier to civic engagement.
Happy 150th to Munich’s trams
Munich’s Straßenbahn system is turning 150 this year, and the city is pulling out all the stops (no pun intended). To celebrate, MVG is planning a year packed with highlights, including a grand parade of historic and modern trams on Saturday, October 17, plus an open day at the tram depot in Einsteinstraße on October 18.
Fans of rails and retro rides can follow the anniversary tram, a special four-part Avenio that takes passengers on a journey through the eras: from the elegant early A-cars of 1898, to the post-war blue-beige M cars, the low-floor R cars of 1990, and finally the current MVG colours with a bold 150 marking the celebration. Along the way, passengers can learn about the milestones, anecdotes, and design changes that turned Munich’s trams into the backbone of the city’s mobility.
There’s even a chance to get involved: snap a photo of the anniversary tram in action and send it to [email protected]. Ten lucky participants will win limited-edition anniversary items. Throughout 2026, exhibitions, guided tours, audio guides, and events at the MVG Museum in Ramersdorf-Perlach will showcase Munich’s tram history in all its glory.

Here’s an un-boring way to invest that billionaires have quietly leveraged for decades
If you have enough money that you think about buckets for your capital…
Ever invest in something you know will have low returns—just for the sake of diversifying?
CDs… Bonds… REITs… :(
Sure, these “boring” investments have some merits. But you probably overlooked one historically exclusive asset class:
It’s been famously leveraged by billionaires like Bezos and Gates, but just never been widely accessible until now.
It outpaced the S&P 500 (!) overall WITH low correlation to stocks, 1995 to 2025.*
It’s not private equity or real estate. Surprisingly, it’s postwar and contemporary art.
And since 2019, over 70,000 people have started investing in SHARES of artworks featuring legends like Banksy, Basquiat, and Picasso through a platform called Masterworks.
23 exits to date
$1,245,000,000+ invested
Annualized net returns like 17.6%, 17.8%, and 21.5%

Munich’s Starkbierzeit is here
Munich is raising its mugs again: the strong ale season, or Starkbierzeit, has kicked off this month and runs till March 29, turning the city into a lively festival hub. From the iconic Nockherberg to cozy brewery pubs across town, locals and visitors can enjoy bock and double bock beers – Salvator, Maximator, Triumphator, and more. Whether you prefer a rustic beer hall, a modern festival tent, or the sunny beer garden at the Royal Deer Garden, there’s a Starkbier festival to suit every mood.
Families aren’t left out either: many venues offer Sunday programs with face painting, magicians, and balloon artists.
Multiple festivals run across the city: Giesinger Bräu (through Mar 15), Löwenbräukeller (through Mar 21), Augustiner-Keller (Feb 27–Mar 28), Hofbräukeller (Feb 27&28), the Royal Deer Garden (Feb 27–Mar 15), and Ayinger Bräustüberl (Mar 6–29). Each offers its own mix of music, party bands, traditional Bavarian atmosphere, and, of course, signature strong beers.
