Protect your bike with ADFC coding

City Bike Rentals

The ADFC (Federation of German Cyclists) and Munich police have teamed up to offer bike coding events to protect your ride from theft. Why is this important? A coded bike is harder for thieves to sell and easier for you to get back if it’s stolen.

Bike coding involves engraving a unique identification code into your bike frame. This code includes details like your city, street, house number, initials, and the year of coding. The process is quick, and it doesn't require registration in a central database. If your coded bike is found, the police can easily identify you as the owner.

Bring the following to your coding appointment:

  • Identity card or passport with registration certificate

  • Proof of ownership (like a purchase receipt)

  • Completed coding order form

The ADFC charges up to €15 per bike, but members get a discount. Note that bikes made of titanium or carbon cannot be coded, but they can be labeled another way.

This year, five more coding events will be held in Munich (dates & registration here). Once you’ve pre-registered, just show up with your documents, and you're good to go.

New MVV mobile ticketing system

The Munich Transport and Tariff Association (MVV) is launching a new electronic ticket system at the end of this year. With this new system, your smartphone will handle all the fare calculations, making your commute simpler and stress-free.

No more guessing which ticket to buy or worrying about complicated fare zones. When you board, simply check in with your smartphone. When you get off, check out. Your phone will automatically calculate the correct fare based on your journey.

Forget to check out? No problem, your phone will handle it. Plus, there's a cost-insurance feature that ensures you never pay more than a day ticket price, no matter how many trips you make in one day.

The new system is seamlessly integrated into the MVV app, so there's no need to download anything extra.
