Whooping cough surge

Whooping cough cases are on the rise in Bavaria. With almost 800 more cases than last year, it’s time to talk about protecting ourselves and our little ones from this serious illness.

This year alone, 1,168 cases of whooping cough have been reported in Bavaria. Health Minister Judith Gerlach urges everyone to get vaccinated to curb this trend. Whooping cough, also known as pertussis, is particularly dangerous for infants, causing severe coughing fits that can lead to vomiting, rib fractures, and even pneumonia or respiratory arrest.

The city of Kassel tops happiness rankings

Photo by Menard Dias on Unsplash

Surprise, surprise! The Hessian city of Kassel has been crowned the happiest city in Germany according to the latest Glücksatlas report. Despite its modest economic indicators, Kassel’s residents enjoy a blissful 7.38 on the happiness scale.

What’s the secret? A blend of family-friendly policies, excellent health care, and a serene environment makes Kassel a joy to live in.

The Glücksatlas study surveyed more than 25,000 residents in Germany’s 40 largest cities, asking how satisfied they are with their lives on a scale from 0 to 10.

It turns out, smaller, quieter cities like Kassel, Erfurt, and Aachen top the happiness charts. These cities might not have the highest incomes or the lowest unemployment rates, but they excel in offering a peaceful, community-focused atmosphere with plenty of green spaces and good air quality.

Interestingly, high-income cities like Munich and Stuttgart are only in the middle of the happiness rankings. Munich, despite being wealthy and clean, lands in 24th place with a score of 6.75. The main culprits? High living costs and a tight housing market seem to dampen the mood.

AMEA

Looking for a cozy spot with top-notch pizza? Drop a visit to Amea.

This inviting little pizzeria has quickly become a favorite, and it’s easy to see why. With a small dining room that makes every meal feel intimate and special, Amea serves up some of the best Neapolitan pizzas in town.

The menu is delightfully simple yet incredibly satisfying. You’ll find a handful of starters and desserts, with pizza being the main attraction.

We tried the Bilbo and the Ines pizzas – both were outstanding. The dough, left to rest for 48-72 hours, is super fluffy, and the high-quality ingredients make every bite a treat.

Don’t miss out on the Tartufo Nero ice cream for dessert.

Due to the small number of tables it's highly recommended that you make reservations or you can always enjoy their takeout and savor it in the nearby Grünwaldpark.

We’ll definitely be back for more, especially for the Nutella pizza!
