3 bits of news

Expect traffic issues from June 23 – 28 June

The G7 Summit is happening at Schloss Elmau from June 23 - 28. The heads of the seven leading industrial nations are meeting at Schloss Elmau in Krün, led by Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD). For the region and all of Bavaria and Austria, this means that there will be a number of traffic disruptions.

The G7 demos in Munich will also cause traffic problems: on Saturday afternoon (June 25) the large demo will occupy the city center where around 20,000 participants are expected. The opening and closing rallies are planned to take place on the Theresienwiese.

In the following days, the police expect temporary traffic disruptions for the duration of the summit.

So what can you do? Avoid traveling by car and instead travel by train (and put those 9 euro tickets to good use!), especially if you have upcoming weekend plans.

Additionally, there will be restrictions on the U3 and U6 lines in the city center from Saturday, June 25th to Sunday, August 7th. On weekdays, the restrictions only affect travelers late at night, and all day on Sundays. You can find the news here (in German).

Donnersbergerbrücke could one day be a tunnel

The Donnersbergerbrücke has to withstand more than 120,000 cars a day. It's been clear for a good year that the bridge won't be able to support this for much longer. The bridge must be demolished and rebuilt within the next 10 to 15 years.

Now the FDP and the Bavarian Party have a new idea: instead of a bridge, the city should examine an underpass so that noise and exhaust fumes disappear from the surface and there is more room above ground.

We are safe for now though.

Aroma coffee bar closes after 24 years

Munich’s Glockenbachviertel is one of the most interesting districts to hang out in and

the Aroma coffee bar made it even cooler!

Unfortunately, the coffee bar will be closing its doors after 24 years. Why? Well, for some family reasons and they couldn’t find someone to rent the location, so it will officially close at the end of June.

I am super sad! We loved the place and the coffee there…. But here’s the quote that got me emotional: "I didn't think it would be that difficult. It feels a bit like someone dying," says the owner, Jürgen Altmann.

Hymn For The Weekend? 💙💜💛

It’s time to make Munich colorful. Yes, you are right the Holi Festival of Colors is coming to town. On June 25 from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., you can attend this event at the Luitpoldanlage in Freising. The event is modeled after the Hindu Holi-day, which commemorates the end of winter and the beginning of spring. Munich is hosting it to usher in summertime.

There will be German and international DJs to heat up the crowd with Electro, Minimal, and House music. Special pigments are provided at the festival.

The organizers recommend that you wear white clothes, because that's how the colors stand out best. Delicious ice-cold drinks and street food stands will also be available on site.

Then visit the Johannismarkt at Schafhofon this weekend, (June 25-26), from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Dozens of artists will be open for exhibition and you can enjoy some live music, too.

Once upon a time on Ammersee, a ship was built in the 1950s which became part of the Bavarian Lake Fleet. Over the years, the ship has transported many passengers back and forth across the lake. Parties were celebrated on board, one or the other band played on deck.

The ship retired in 2016 and was supposed to get scrapped in 2017 – but it didn’t.

Wannda e.V. is the club that bought and restored it and converted it into the Alte Utting, a restaurant/bar in the city for cultural heritage. There are different programs happening several times of the week.

So, enough of the backstory! I have been there and it is a cool experience. So, I highly recommend it. Ahoi!

“Hipster Alert! Well worth a visit if you're into cool/extravagant bars.

The food is good but overpriced by my standards, overall, the atmosphere is great, though.

Come and watch the sunset with some friends, it's worth it. 💯”
