Innovative PopUp dorms might come to Munich too

Looking for affordable, eco-friendly housing in Munich? The city might soon welcome PopUp dorms, a temporary student and trainee housing solution inspired by a successful Vienna model

These dorms, made from modular timber and equipped with high ecological standards, offer a flexible and sustainable living option.

The dorms are constructed from 10 wooden modules, which can be prefabricated and assembled on-site within a week. Each module meets passive house standards and features a photovoltaic system on the roof for electricity. These dorms emphasize minimal resource consumption and can be moved to different locations, leaving no waste behind.

Munich's high rent is a significant burden for students and trainees. PopUp dorms offer a solution by using fallow land to create affordable housing.

These dorms have already proven successful in Vienna, where they provide comfortable and sustainable living spaces for students. In a proposal that was submitted to the city council on Tuesday, the SPD expressed its intention to introduce these PopUp dorms to Munich - The Munich City Council is considering implementing this model to help trainees find affordable accommodation.

Open schoolyards for kids

Looking for more space for your kids to play? Munich schools have a fantastic solution! Some are opening their schoolyards and sports facilities outside school hours, creating more play areas for children and teenagers in the city center.

Munich is transforming its schoolyards into public play spaces, available in the afternoons, on weekends, and during holidays. Even if your child doesn’t attend these schools, they’re welcome to join the fun.
