3 bits of news
No appointment needed
If your last name starts with a letter from P to Z: you can now visit the KVR Ausländerbehörde, Munich Foreigners’ Office without an appointment.
Just walk into Entrance A on Ruppertstraße during regular hours, and you’ll be served within 20 to 25 minutes—no need to line up before the doors open.
Think of it as a laid-back test run for a more relaxed consultation process.
But before you skip the line, a couple of notes: this pilot program is only open to the P-Z surname group (sorry, A-O folks) and excludes students and highly qualified professionals.
If all goes well, expect it to expand to everyone early next year.
Hours are:
• Monday: 7:30am – 12 Noon
• Tuesday: 8:30am – 12 Noon, 2pm – 6pm
• Wednesday: 7:30am – 12 Noon
• Thursday: 8:30am – 3pm
• Friday: 7:30am – 12 Noon
For urgent matters, you can still try your luck with booking emergency appointments.

New year, new pool prices
If a swim or sauna is your go-to escape, brace yourself—starting January 1, 2025, M-Bäder’s prices are ticking up slightly to offset rising energy and maintenance costs.
You’ll notice about a 5.9% increase on average. But hey, with an M-Bäderkarte or digital Vorteilskarte, you can still enjoy a nice 10% discount on all entries.
Expect price bumps across the board. Indoor pools like Müller’sches Volksbad will now cost €5.80 for a standard ticket (up from €5.50), while pools with special attractions—think Olympia-Schwimmhalle and Cosimawellenbad—will set you back €6.90. For die-hard swimmers, the Dante winter pool jumps to €10.50.
If you’re all about the sauna, you’ll see a small price change here too. The sauna entry fee at spots like Cosimawellenbad and Nordbad will now be €23 for a 4-hour session, while the day pass rises to €34.50. And yes, those blissful sauna evenings start at €17.50 after 7:45pm.
Make sure to check the updated prices before your next visit.

Habeck’s big plan to grow the economy

Germany’s economy could be getting a major makeover.
Economy Minister Robert Habeck has proposed a Germany Fund—a multibillion-euro initiative aimed at boosting investment, modernizing infrastructure and giving the economy a much-needed nudge.
With Germany’s growth slowing, the proposal calls for a fresh approach to stimulate both private and public investment. The fund would offer a 10% investment premium for all businesses, from start-ups to major corporations. Even those not yet turning a profit would benefit.
Habeck, who may run for chancellor in the next election, is tackling Germany’s tight budget rules, often seen as a stumbling block for innovation.
His plan would temporarily lift some of these limits, focusing on sustainable, growth-friendly investments for the next five years. Finance Minister Christian Lindner and coalition partners are analyzing the feasibility of this ambitious proposal, with discussions set to heat up at next week’s industry summit.

A beer-lovers’ pilgrimage
Ready for a day of views, brews, and a few scenic climbs?
Route 38 from Herrsching to Andechs Monastery is here to deliver. Starting at the charming Herrsching train station, this 9.6km round-trip hike blends the beauty of the Ammersee shoreline with serene forest paths and ends at the “holy mountain” of Andechs.
Just follow the path toward St. Martin’s Church, and soon you’ll be winding through sunny meadows and shaded woods, all with picturesque views of the Alps.
Once you arrive at the monastery, the Gothic architecture and freshly tapped beer make for a well-earned rest stop. And of course, no Bavarian adventure would be complete without a hearty snack to go with it.

Dachshunds hit the race track
On November 3, Motorworld Munich will transform into the ultimate arena for the city’s second annual Dachshund Race.
With 70 mighty mini racers (yes, even American Dwarf Dachshunds!) competing in categories from featherweight to “Handicap Hero,” this event is set to be a true spectacle.
Not racing? No problem. There’s more to enjoy!
From dog yoga and trail demonstrations to a lineup of experts discussing wellness and training tips, it’s a full day of furry festivities. The race kicks off in the steam dome on the first floor, with bigger dogs watching from the upstairs gallery – because we all know Dachshunds like to keep an audience.
If you’re a Dachshund fan, grab a spot early – last year, this event drew 15,000 spectators and international press. It’s tiny legs, big excitement.
