Here’s our weekly roundup:
Just 43 days until the Dirndls come out the closet and the Maß get raised up. Oktoberfest 2025 is nearly here – and the updates are already rolling in.
For the first time ever, one of the Wiesn tents, die Münchner Stubn, is going completely cashless. Tap, pay, Prost!🍻

3 bits of news
Lindwurmstraße revamp in time for Wiesn foot traffic
Next month, 6 million people will descend on the city for Munich’s annual Oktoberfest and construction workers are racing the clock and winning (hopefully). The long-anticipated facelift of Lindwurmstraße between Sendlinger Tor and Goetheplatz has been underway and should be finished before the Wiesn madness begins.
Think: fewer cars, wider bike lanes, more greenery and ideally, less chaos. This is the first of multiple phases, with completion scheduled sometime between now and when we all start flying hover cars. Bus 62 will be rerouted on construction weekends so check the MVGO app for any disruptions in service. And fingers crossed it’s all cleared up before the Oktoberfest bottlenecks arrive.

Last chance to ride MVG bikes
Sad news for bike-share lovers: starting September 30, the MVG Räder (those sturdy blue bikes you may or may not have crashed on once) will disappear from Munich’s streets.
Why? After ten years, the city and MVG are parting ways, and while there’s talk of a new system, nothing’s confirmed yet. So if you’ve been a loyal fan of the bikes... maybe take a few last spins before they’re retired.
Customers will be informed of the change in a letter. MVG also recommends cycling off the accumulated free minutes. The corresponding overview of the MVG bike account can be found in the MVGO app: To do this, an MVG bike must be selected on the overview map. The free minutes can then be seen in the corresponding info field.
In the coming weeks, the stand modules at the MVG bike stations will be gradually dismantled. The stations themselves will remain in place until the end of the system, so that the bikes can be rented and returned as usual until then
Theresienwiese gets a playground glow-up
Just in time for sunny days and Oktoberfest family visits, the Theresienwiese now has a freshly revamped playground that’s as thoughtful as it is fun. The city didn’t just plunk down some swings and call it a day–this 4,400 m² space was redesigned with real care including input from students at the neighboring schools. They wanted things like zip lines and tall towers but here’s what else you get:
Inclusive: Accessible paths, picnic tables with spots for wheelchairs and barrier-free layouts mean everyone can join in the fun.
New gear: From climbing frames and fitness equipment (think calisthenics, slacklines, senior-friendly workout stations) to spotless, modern streetball and table tennis areas, there’s something for all ages.
Chill family time: Benches, picnic zones, and seating decks are dotted around with evening lighting until 10 pm making it ideal for relaxing.
Practical perks: There’s a fresh toilet setup (complete with water fountains) near the U-Bahn entrance – an underrated luxury during busy Wiesn days.
Green by design: It may look playful, but it’s built for sustainability, with space to mingle under the old trees that the planners preserved.
Whether your little ones need to burn off energy or you just want a fun family day out, this new playground is a total win.

1 new restaurant/café to try
A Small Café & Bar
We stumbled into A Small Café near Fraunhoferstraße, and honestly, it’s the chill brunch spot you didn’t know you needed. The menu is rooted in the places its founders left a piece of their hearts: India, Mexico as well as the Caribbean. That global inspiration shows up in every detail, from the spices to the plating. Much of what’s served is homemade using family recipes, and anything that isn’t comes from small, like-minded producers who share the café’s slow food values.
The result? A brunch menu that’s both comforting and nourishing – with dishes like shakshuka, pistachio cheesecake, and a mango-cardamom mimosa that might just ruin you for all other brunch drinks (unless you order the lucky chai martini, of course).
Come Friday, Saturday or Sunday afternoons, the café turns into A Small Bar, dimming the lights and mixing up creative cocktails, local wines and craft brews in a cozy, plant-filled corner that feels like a well-kept secret.
It's small, soulful and effortlessly stylish.
One of our readers, Sarah, shared this with us. We thank her for the great tip.
Bonus: No reservation needed. Just show up.
