3 bits of news
The city will soon scan every rental listing in Munich
Munich launched its Mietenmonitor last week. The tool automatically scans online listings and checks asking prices against the current rent index. Landlords whose listings look too high get a message asking them to review.
Most landlords don’t realize their asking price is above the legal limit and simply accept whatever the rental portal suggests. Munich has been pushing the federal government for stronger rent law for years, without success.
Munich has no legal power to step into private leases, and fining a landlord for overcharging requires clearing a very high legal bar. The tool nudges rather than enforces. Pilot runs until December 31, 2028, and here’s hoping it takes some air out of the bubble.

Help decide where Munich puts €1,000,000
Munich is opening the MünchenBudget vote to all residents. Over 1,000 ideas were submitted this year, and the city narrowed them to a top 20. You can pick all your favorites, so long as your combined picks don’t exceed €1 million.
Voting runs online here until November 1. Anyone with a Munich address aged 14 or older can take part. Under-14s can vote with a legal guardian.
This is Munich’s second round of participatory budgeting. Winning projects are announced in November, and the city starts building from there. Once voting closes, the city funds the winning projects and posts updates on the same website.

Munich has new monthly events for all newcomers
The Munich Welcome Center is launching monthly meetups for new residents. The first one is November 10, 6pm to 7:30pm, at the KVR in Ludwigsvorstadt.
Two sessions are on the agenda: the Verbraucherzentrale Bayern covers insurance basics, and the city’s Mobilitätsreferat walks through getting around Munich. The Welcome Center also introduces its services and partner organizations.
After the presentations, there’s time to network with other newcomers. Events are FREE to attend, just register at muenchen.de/welcomecenter.

You get the visa. You find a place to live. You’re excited. So why are you suddenly exhausted?
In this episode of The MITA Podcast, host Tatjana Krajsic speaks with Mindy Ling; a Life & Mindset Coach for Global Citizens about what actually happens to our brains when we move abroad. Routines, languages, social rules — things that once ran on autopilot suddenly have to be relearned from scratch.
They get into why even small familiar things start to matter more, and practical ways to feel more grounded.

1 new restaurant/café to try
Pastalozzi
Pastalozzi is just off the Holzplatz in Glockenbachviertel, five minutes from Sendlinger Tor. Part café, part day bar, part restaurant – the kitchen makes fresh pasta every morning and bakes pinsa the Roman way: longer fermentation, lighter dough, nothing like a regular pizza.
The carbonara is proper (guanciale, pecorino, no cream) and the Pinsa Porto e Bello is the one to order. Tiramisu is the only house-made dessert on the menu. Pasta runs €12–17, Pinsa €11–17.
Downstairs there’s a vaulted stone cellar for private events or a candlelight dinner. The same owner, Fabian, also runs Curtain Call bar nearby.
General information:
📍 Pestalozzistraße 28, 80469 München
