EUDI Wallet- digital IDs explained
Photo by Héctor Achautla on Unsplash
The new European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet) is about to make your life a whole lot easier.
Forget carrying around IDs, licenses, or even your tax papers—now, they’re all going digital. Germany’s hopping on the bandwagon with a new app that’ll store a digital version of your Personalausweis, perfect for all your administrative tasks like opening a bank account or filing your taxes, all from your phone.
Set to roll out across the EU by 2026 (with a little extra time for Germany 2027), the EUDI Wallet lets you securely save, share, and manage everything from your ID to your driver’s license and even your signature.
And yes, you can rent a car or even sign contracts legally with just a tap.
It’s secure, it’s convenient, and it’s free.
But here’s the kicker: while it sounds like the answer to our paperwork headaches, there are a few concerns about data privacy and security. After all, bundling your entire identity into one app does sound a little James Bond-ish. But no worries—the app is designed with top-notch encryption and requires your consent for every transaction.
So, what’s the catch? Nothing much, really—just be smart about who you share your info with, and enjoy the perks of a digital future!

Price hikes for long distance travel with DB
Photo by Daniel Abadia on Unsplash
If you're planning to take a cozy train ride this winter, you might want to check your ticket price twice before booking.
Starting on December 15, Deutsche Bahn is adjusting its prices, with Flexpreis tickets and long-distance fares seeing a 5.9% bump. While some prices climb higher than your morning coffee, you can still breathe easy knowing the Sparpreis and Supersparpreis tickets will remain at 21.99 euros and 17.99 euros—if you're lucky enough to snag one.
For BahnCard 100 holders, the increase hits a little harder, with a 6.6% price hike. But if you’ve got a BahnCard 25 or 50, you're in the clear for now.
And yes, the Deutschlandticket, which many have come to love, is getting a price adjustment too—from 49 euros to 58 euros starting in January 2025.
So, what’s the bottom line? If you're a frequent traveler or a fan of flexible tickets, it might be time to reconsider those savings deals and book early.

Wiesn 2024 welcomed 6.7 million guests
Oktoberfest 2024 has officially wrapped up, and what a ride it’s been! While we didn’t quite beat last year’s record, Wiesn boss Clemens Baumgärtner still calls it a win. Why? Because people may have sipped a little less beer, but they sure made up for it with the extra pretzels and bratwurst!
A whopping 3,500 items ended up at the Wiesn lost and found office. Thankfully, crime was down by 25.8%, which means the biggest drama most of us had was locating our missing phones.
So, what’s the final tally for this year's Wiesn? Here are the top stats:
Guests: 6.7 million
Beer consumed: 7 million liters (cheers!)
Lost and Found items: 3,500 (hope you find your phone)
Measuring jugs (Glass Biersteins) "borrowed": 98,000 (maybe time to buy your own?)
A final note: No major Oktoberfest hit song this year, but a few tunes from Munich's concert summer made it into the beer halls. Who knows, maybe next year we’ll get a catchy tune to hum with our Maß in hand.
