Here’s what we’ve got for you this week:

This week we have two back-to-back reasons to celebrate. Sunday, May 10 is Mother's Day, and Thursday, May 14 is a public holiday and Father's Day. A four-day workweek and cake twice in one week. Definitely worth looking forward to.

While you're at it, feel good about where you live. Munich just ranked 9th in the Happy City Index 2026 – the highest of any major German city and the only one to earn Gold City status. It scored consistently well across every single category across economy, health, education, and more.

3 bits of news

Free bulky waste pickup is coming to your neighborhood

Got a sofa you've been stepping around for three months? Munich's waste management authority (AWM) is bringing collection points straight to your neighborhood this year. No hauling across town required. First stop: Schwabing-West on May 9 at the weekly market on Georg-Birk-Straße.

You can drop off furniture, carpets, mattresses, scrap metal, small electrical appliances, and used textiles up to two 60-liter bags per person  – all for FREE.

No construction waste, no fridges, no car tires and no hazardous materials allowed. The city's secondhand store Halle 2 will also be on-site to take well-preserved items and run a swap-and-giveaway platform.

Berry season is back in Munich

Strawberry season is starting, and Munich has more pick-your-own fields than most people realize. The Hofreiter Farm runs five locations inside the city limits: Lochhausen, Feldmoching, Johanniskirchen, Pasing, and Unterhaching with berry cafés attached to three of them. Entry costs €5 to €6, and €2 to €3 of that comes back as harvest credit.

Fields from Erdbeer-Lang, the Wolf family, and Storz Strawberry Farms cover the wider Munich area, from Perlach and Taufkirchen to Putzbrunn and Vaterstetten. The season runs roughly from late May through July, depending on the weather and the farm.

New this year: Hofi's Adventure Park in Dasing opened May 1 with roller coasters, a corn pit, a 3-story climbing forest, and fresh-baked pizza for families who want more than just berries.

Portions are generous, prices sit at €20 to €30 per person, and the vibe is cozy rather than fast-food. The Laim location on Fürstenrieder Straße is the biggest and busiest.
