Here’s what we’ve got for you this week:

This Saturday, April 18 at noon, Munich takes to the streets. A demonstration for renewable energies kicks off at the Victory Gate in Maxvorstadt, calling for a faster shift to clean energy and an end to fossil fuel lobbying. With the Iran war pushing fuel prices up, the timing couldn't be better.

Speakers include astrophysics professor Harald Lesch, Greenpeace Bavaria, and state parliament members from the Greens and SPD. The route goes through Ludwigstraße to the State Chancellery. Berlin, Hamburg, and Cologne are marching the same day.

3 bits of news

Nine new outdoor spots just opened across the city

The city built or fully renovated nine outdoor fitness trails, calisthenics parks, and playgrounds last year – all open to everyone, and all FREE. Highlights include a pump track in Berg am Laim, a fitness trail at Theresienwiese, and a bouldering facility at Westbad in Pasing.

New playgrounds landed across the city too, including a 12-meter play tower at Theresienwiese, a water play area at Gollierplatz in Westend, and a jungle-themed climb at Thuillestraße. More are coming this year in Haidhausen, Perlach, and Baumkirchen Mitte.

Want to find the nearest one? The city's playground finder lets you filter by age group, equipment, and features like skate parks or fitness trails.

Italy just got a lot closer to Munich

Italy's high-speed train hits speeds of up to 400km/h and starting in May, it's being tested on the Munich to Italy route. The goal: cut travel time to Milan by 75 minutes and to Rome by 45 minutes, all departing from München Hauptbahnhof via Innsbruck, Bolzano, and Verona.

No flight, no middle seat, just a high-speed connection through the Alps to Italy. It's part of a broader push to make European rail so good that flying starts to feel unnecessary.

Regular service hasn't launched yet as this is still the testing phase. But if it works, your next pizza in Milan just got a lot more spontaneous.

Dehbaschi

Dehbaschi on Dachauer Straße in Maxvorstadt has been serving Persian food in Munich longer than most places have been around. The menu centers on Persian classics: saffron basmati rice, Tschelo Kubideh (grilled seasoned meat kebab over saffron rice), and fresh bread with green olives and mint that arrives before you've even ordered.

Portions are generous and staff friendly. It gets busy, so expect a wait, but the food arrives hot and worth it.

Delivery available directly through their website – new customers get €10 off with code DEHBASCHI. Vegetarian options are limited, so worth checking the menu in advance.
