Here’s what we’ve got for you this week:

Friday, October 3, is a public holiday. Which means two things: more time for bike rides, and more time to realize your bike looks like it’s been through a swamp. Munich finally has a fix. Forget wrestling your bike into the shower – the city now has three proper bike washing stations.

Starting from only €3, you roll into a Radldusche, press a button, and clean your bike like a BMW at a car wash. Tires, frame, even the chain. It’s quick, eco-friendly, and saves you from explaining chain grease stains on your bathroom tiles. If you’re still not sure how it works, you can view it in action here

Find the stations in Untergiesing, Werksviertel-Mitte and Haidhausen. Perfect timing if you’re planning to ride over the long weekend.

3 bits of news

Sport halls open for everyone

Munich’s Freizeitsport-Hallenprogramm is back. And starting this week, residents have access to school gyms and sport halls every evening. The lineup is broad: basketball, volleyball, yoga, Pilates, qigong, kickboxing, and even Generation Plus classes tailored for older residents.

New this season are Circus Arts; a playful balance-and-coordination class for parents and kids and Power Circuit Training for anyone who wants to build strength.

Prices are intentionally low: €3.20 per session (or €12 for a strip of four). Teens and young adults under 21 can even join for FREE with an ID. No registration needed, so it’s perfect if you decide on a workout last minute.

If you’re new to the city or just haven’t found your community yet, it’s a ready-made way to meet people in your area. In a city where private gyms can easily run €40 a month, this is one of the cheapest ways to stay active until spring.

With more than 40 locations, it’s one of those insider tips that makes Munich winters bearable.

Munich’s robot chef lands a job at Meta

Munich’s startup scene is cooking – literally. Meta’s Munich office just hired its most efficient employee yet: the CA-1 Series 4, a cooking robot built by local startup Circus SE.

It looks like a sleek container with robot arms, but give it an order via touch or voice and you’ll get Mediterranean pasta, lentil curry, or even strawberry granola – cooked and served. If that isn’t your vibe, worry not, the CA-1 isn’t tied to fixed recipes. Meta’s AI (Llama and Maverick) lets the menu adapt and expand.

At the launch event, the menu ranged from chicken pasta to pomegranate salads. The verdict is surprisingly tasty. The system even links to Meta’s AI, which means future versions will be able to make your life even easier and suggest meals based on your smartwatch data.

Circus isn’t stopping at tech campuses. REWE supermarkets will test CA-1 units next, and large-scale production is already planned.

For Munich, it’s proof the city can serve more than Bier n' Brezen – it can serve up world-class tech, too.

Did we mention that it even does the dishes? Yes, he’s all of our dreams come true.

A job perk you can actually use: MVG’s mobility budget

Forget the one-size-fits-all job perks. Munich is rolling out a mobility budget for employees. Since September, MVG offers a mobility budget companies can hand out to staff. The deal: your employer sets a budget, and you decide how to spend it.

Bus, U-Bahn, car sharing, scooter rentals, even bike repairs or leasing – all is included. Everything runs through the MVGO app, and it logs trips and receipts automatically. Which is music to our ears because it means no paperwork mess.

It’s also beneficial for companies including: tax breaks, green cred for reducing CO₂, and a shiny new benefit that attracts new talent. Employees get flexibility, employers get points for being modern and sustainable. That’s what you call a win-win.

If your company hasn’t heard of it yet, now’s the time to casually forward this newsletter to HR. Who knows – your next bike repair or e-scooter ride could be on them.

One night, 100+ museums – Longest Night of Museums is here

It’s back: on Saturday, October 18, Munich’s museums, galleries, and cultural spots keep the doors open until 1am. A single ticket gets you into more than 100 venues.

The €20 pass (kids included) covers entry to every participating museum and unlimited rides on the MVG shuttle buses running citywide routes. One adult ticket lets you bring up to four kids (ages 4–14) for FREE – making it a bargain you don’t want to miss.

If you’re going with kids, you don’t have to wait till the sun sets as children’s tours and activities run mostly from 2–6pm.

You can start at the Pinakotheken, wander into the Egyptian Museum and still have time for a detour into private galleries you’ve probably walked past for years. Since shuttle buses connect the venues, you can museum-hop without worrying about the weather.

Every year, the event draws over 30,000 night owls, if you care to join them then get your ticket in advance through München Ticket. Other options include picking them up on the day at Odeonsplatz or directly at participating museums.

It’s less about ticking every museum off the list and more about seeing the city in a new way. We all know Munich as quiet and sober after 8pm but this is your chance to see it in a new light.

A Halloween takeover in Munich

Munich might not be Salem, but it’s trying hard this year. Forget the lone costume party – we’re talking about a whole week of Halloween madness. From late October, the Big Halloween Week strings together six different events across the city: a kid-friendly disco, full-blown haunted houses, club nights, costume contests, light shows and even a candy dinner.

It’s the first time Munich’s gone this big for a spooky season, and the mix means everyone’s covered. There will be a total of six events for every Halloween fan mainly in these four categories:

  1. Born to Rock– for the rockstars at heart

  2. Family Halloween – for families with children

  3. After Work Halloween – for people that want to wind down and meet like-minded individuals

  4. The 16+ Halloween Party – for the youngsters and clubbing fans

1 new restaurant/café to try

Neo Society

Coffee is great, but sometimes you just want green. Neo Society in Schwabing is part café, part concept store and all about matcha. The drinks are made with ceremonial-grade powder, smooth enough to convert even the skeptics among us. Pair it with one their bakery delights, and suddenly your afternoon feels a lot less sluggish.

The vibe is minimalist and calm, with shelves of goods related to matcha if you feel like browsing. We went in with no expectations and were charmed by the friendly staff, who suggested we try the iced mango matcha and the frozen matcha.

The recommendations were top notch – especially the frozen matcha. It wasn’t something we had seen or tried before. Definitely a great way to hold onto summer a little longer.

We went to their branch at Elisabethplatz and found the seating both inside and outside to be very cute since the whole square now has small cafes. Definitely plan a visit to Neo Society and generally the Elisabethplatz square if you haven’t been in a while.
