3 bits of news
Bavaria’s blood supply in trouble
The Bavarian Red Cross is sounding the alarm: blood donations are declining. While nearly 249,000 donors currently help care for Bavaria’s 13.4 million residents, fewer new donors are stepping up.
In 2023, about 50,000 first-time donors participated, but in 2024, that number dropped to 45,000, a worrying trend.
Bavaria needs 2,000 donations daily to meet hospital needs, and shortages can put seriously ill and injured patients at risk. With vacation seasons, flu outbreaks and even bad weather affecting donations, the system is running on thin ice.
Anyone 18 and older (up to 73 for repeat donors) can donate after a medical check. Women can donate up to four times a year, while men can donate six times. Staying hydrated and eating beforehand helps ensure a smooth experience.
For more convenience, Bavaria’s digital blood donation app makes it easier than ever to find a nearby center, reserve an appointment and track donation history.
Every donation can save up to three lives—why not make a difference today?

NO₂ levels now within limits
Good news for everyone who breathes—which is all of us.
For the first time since 2010, Munich has officially met the annual nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) limit across the entire city. That means cleaner air and a step forward for public health.
At the Landshuter Allee measuring station, NO₂ pollution dropped to 39μg/m³, a significant improvement from 45μg/m³ in 2023. The same trend was seen at Moosacher Straße 10, where levels fell from a slight exceedance in 2023 to a compliant 39μg/m³ in 2024.
The latest data suggests that efforts to reduce emissions and improve air quality are working.
