Got an extra iron or toaster gathering dust? Rent It out with Shapp!

Meet Shapp, (abr for “Sharing-app”) that’s making life in Munich a little easier. Founded by three savvy students, this platform lets you rent out items you don’t use every day or borrow things you don’t want to buy—like a juicer, a sewing machine, or that elusive projector for movie night.

Here’s How It Works:

Simply download the free app, register and you’re ready to go.

Want to rent something out? Snap a pic, set the price, and watch your cordless drill find a new purpose. The process is simple, safe and eco-friendly, helping to reduce overproduction and CO₂ emissions. Plus, there are rewards for eco-conscious users.

The sharing app is currently only available in Munich but the founders have big plans to expand. In the meantime, Shapp is perfect for Munich newcomers, students and anyone looking to save space, money, or both.

Looking for a hike that has it all? Meet the Staffelsee trail—a 22km stretch of pure Bavarian bliss. You’ll wander through lush forests, spot rare plants in moors and stumble upon quiet bays that’ll make you forget city life even exists.

And don’t worry about getting lost; the trail is well-signposted and the ever-present Alps make a pretty solid backdrop.

Need a break from walking? Just hop on one of the Staffelsee boats running from spring to autumn between Seehausen, Achele and Uffing. It’s like your personal shortcut across the lake.

With scenic picnic areas, flower picking and even swimming, there’s no chance the kids will get bored. Plus, benches and barbecue areas are sprinkled along the way, perfect for a rest or a snack while you enjoy the view of grazing cows and serene waters.

It’s that time of year again—Halloween is creeping up and we want to see those jack-o-lanterns glowing.

If you’re ready to welcome trick-or-treaters this year, let’s make sure you’re on the map. Literally. Submit your address and become part of Munich’s Halloween map, so kids know where to score some treats.

Not seeing your postal code? No worries, just become a neighborhood captain and lead the Halloween charge. This is only for addresses within the Mittlerer Ring.

Want to make it easy for those little ghosts and goblins to spot your place? Display a jack-o-lantern or even some orange balloons. And don’t forget to print a Halloween label for your doorbell.

Trick-or-treating kicks off on Thursday, October 31, between 5:30 and 6:30pm, so stock up on sweets and get ready for a spooktacular night.

It's time to declutter those shelves. The Amerikahaus Book Swap is back on Sunday, April 28, 2024, from 10am to 4pm, and it's your chance to trade your old English books for something fresh.

Bring your gently loved reads, exchange them for Book Swap Coupons and then pick up new titles. It’s like a bookstore, but free. What’s not to love?

Want to beat the rush?

You can drop off your books in advance and get your coupons sorted early. Stop by the Amerikahaus reception from April 2227 during regular hours, and you’ll be all set.
