Culinary stars of 2025

Munich has cooked up some serious talent and the Gault Millau gastronomic guide is here to dish out the awards.

With two of Germany’s top 15 restaurants based in Bavaria, the region’s culinary scene is officially on fire (in the best way).

The restaurant JAN near Köningsplatz has secured its spot among Germany’s top five, boasting five red hoods—the culinary equivalent of earning gold stars. And let’s not forget Alois at Dallmayr, where chef Rosina Ostler was crowned Discovery of the Year for her tapas-inspired, flavor-packed creations.

The accolades don’t stop there. Bobby Bräuer, a legend at the BMW Welt’s Esszimmer, received a Lifetime Achievement Award, and it’s safe to say this chef is far from hanging up his apron.

Lost it at the Wiesn?

The Wiesn lost and found office is bursting with forgotten treasures, but time is running out.

More than 2,600 unclaimed items are still waiting for their owners and the collection period at Munich’s KVR (Implerstraße 11) ends tomorrow, Friday, January 24. Jackets, hats, phones and even a plush lion are among the orphaned items.

Some of these goodies are worth a small fortune, featuring brands like Lodenfrey and Engelbert Strauss.

According to Rainer Kohles, the friendly head of the lost property office, asking again could be your golden ticket—especially since some items only surface at the end of Oktoberfest.

So if you’re missing something from the festivities, don’t assume it’s gone forever.

Make an appointment online to search for your lost treasures, but hurry—unclaimed items might be auctioned off or, in the case of keys, destroyed after three months.

Supper Club Canteen

Who knew a canteen could moonlight as a foodie haven? Since October 2024, the Supper Club Canteen in Munich’s Werksviertel has been flipping the script on your typical workday cafeteria.
