3 bits of news
Behind city hall doors
Ever walked past city hall and wondered what goes on behind those big wooden doors?
On Saturday, May 3, from 10am to 4pm, you finally get to find out. The city is throwing open the doors with its annual Open Day, and it’s not just for the politics nerds.
We’re talking guided tours, a meet-and-greet with the mayor, a rare view from the town hall balcony, and access to parts of the building you’ve probably never even noticed.
It’s not just city hall—Open Day stretches all across Munich. Hop around to see what goes on at the fire stations, learn how canal systems work (yes, it’s oddly fascinating), or peek at how pool tech really runs.

Westbad indoor pool reopens
After nearly a year of construction, Westbad’s indoor pool in Pasing has reopened and locals are loving it.
Doors opened on April 14, and by lunchtime, hundreds had already made a splash. Even the sunshine showed up for it.
This isn’t just a touch-up. We’re talking new showers, updated steam baths, fresh wardrobes, and a renovated roof.
The indoor area includes:
A 25-meter lap pool
Adventure pool with palms
Slides and whirlpools
Newly upgraded steam room
The Finnish sauna is open too, but the full sauna area won’t be ready until the end of June.
What’s Coming Next:
For now, there’s a reduced entry price: €9.30. When it’s all open again, swimwear will be required in the sauna so families can join too.
The outdoor pool area opens May 15 with:
50m pool
Diving platforms (1m & 3m)
Adventure pool with a 64m stainless slide
Playground and splash zone for kids

Shopping center gets a makeover
Remember when the Forum Schwanthalerhöhe was just about shops and escalators? Not anymore.
This place is flipping the script. With trampolines, escape rooms, VR games, and even karaoke, the upper floor is turning into a full-on entertainment zone.
The shift comes after the pandemic left a few retail gaps, and honestly, shopping habits aren’t what they used to be. So the Forum’s doing something smart: offering what the internet can’t.
The ground floor is also welcoming new food spots soon. Opening hours remain 10am–8pm, but the fun stuff? Stays open later. You can hit the karaoke mic or VR arena until 10:30pm - even on Sundays.

2,500 stalls to browse in one day

If you’re into vintage finds, secondhand steals, or just a good old-fashioned haggle, clear your Saturday.
On April 26, the Theresienwiese turns into Bavaria’s biggest flea market, with around 2,500 sellers spreading out across 80,000 square meters.
It runs from 7am to 4pm, and entry is totally free.
Want to sell? Here’s how.
Spots go fast, so if you’re planning to sell, book your stand through MünchenTicket starting in March. Setup starts the day before, on Friday, April 25. No early markings, no large furniture, and definitely no mystery meat allowed.
And yes, the BRK still runs the show, with proceeds going to medical, rescue, and water services. So even if you’re just there for fun, you’re still part of something helpful.

Skate through the city
Are you ready to swap traffic for tunes and wheels? Munich BladeNight kicks off on Monday, May 5, and it’s your chance to cruise through the city like you own the road, because for one night, you kind of do.
The meet-up starts at Bavariapark (U5 Schwanthalerhöhe), with good vibes and good food from 6pm. The real fun begins at 9pm, when hundreds of skaters hit the streets on one of four scenic routes. It’s organized by the folks at SkateMunich! with tons of volunteers making sure everyone rolls safe.
Need gear? The Rollerblade rental truck is there from 7pm.
Feeling hungry? Grab Mexican bites from La Cometa or roasted nuts and ice cream on-site.
Want to learn how to brake like a pro? There’s a course for that at 8pm.
And if you’re feeling generous, check out the donation tables or drop a few euros on PayPal. This whole thing is volunteer-run, and every bit helps keep it rolling.

1 new restaurant/café to try
ELI: Schwabing
Forget the usual pub food. At Elisabethmarkt, there’s a new kind of flavor making waves and it’s called ELI.
Open since early April, this bright and buzzing spot leans into a cozy “Soul Kitchen” feel, with everything from cauliflower steak to veal liver, plus creative cocktails that basically deserve their own menu.
With space for over 300 guests split between a royal-blue dining room and a sunny terrace, ELI brings people together over shared plates, bold ideas, and modern twists on comfort food. Dogs welcome, by the way. And yes, brunch is a thing on weekends from 9am to 2pm.
Do try the grilled watermelon, sweet potato pancakes, or their signature sushi rice waffles topped with trout or eggplant.
Drinks? Start with the “ELI Sparkle” or the oak barrel-aged Negroni if you’re feeling adventurous.
