3 bits of news
Safer Stachus crossing coming
If you’ve ever tried crossing Sonnenstraße at rush hour, you know it’s… hectic.
Around 3,000 people move through that spot every peak hour. But help is on the way. Construction is now underway to make this area safer and more comfortable for everyone, especially walkers and cyclists.
The work is tied to updates on the subway and tram tracks. Instead of doing it all separately, the city is bundling it into one big project. That means fewer long-term disruptions and a faster finish; expected by November.
Here’s What’s Changing
Wider walkways: Pedestrians and cyclists get their own space, divided by a green strip.
Bigger waiting areas: The new central islands will double in space, so it’s not as cramped during busy times.
Better bike lanes: In front of the Palace of Justice, the two-way bike path will be 3.75 meters wide.
Fully accessible: Lowered curbs, guidance for the blind, and accessible replacement transit stops.

Georgenschwaige pool reopens
Munich’s got a new summer hangout—it’s the same spot locals loved before the fire, just way better now.
Naturbad Georgenschwaige in Schwabing reopened on June 2 after a full rebuild. It’s now a natural pool with clean water filtered with reed bed technology and kept at a comfy 22°C, thanks to solar power.
You’ll find all the good stuff: a 50-meter sports pool, non-swimmer pool, paddling pool for little ones and a wide slide for all ages.
The new wooden deck stretches 100 meters along the water and there’s a sand area for a beachy feel. Bonus: the shady old trees are still there.
Here’s What You Need to Know
Location: Between Petuelring and Luitpoldpark in Schwabing-West
Access: Barrier-free, with wheelchair-friendly features
Opening Hours: Mon–Thu from 10am, Fri–Sun from 9am (weather-dependent)
Fees: €6.30 adults, €4 for kids 12+ and seniors, free for kids under 12
No on-site food just yet, so maybe pack a snack or two. And yes, changing rooms are closer now.

Aerospace campus launches soon
This fall, something big is taking off in Taufkirchen.
Starting in October, aerospace students will be hitting the books at TUM’s brand-new campus on Willy-Messerschmitt-Straße. With over 75,000 square meters of cutting-edge labs and classrooms, the goal is clear: turn this into Europe’s top spot for aerospace studies.
Right now, the numbers are already impressive: over 2,000 students, 400 employees and 31 professors.
Once the campus is fully built out (by 2035), those numbers will double, which means more people, but more ideas and more action around town.
