Heads up: your phone will sound an alarm on September 10 at 11am. Don’t panic and flee into your basement just yet. It’s Germany's annual Warning Day test. The nationwide alarm goes out via cell broadcast, radio, and loudspeakers, followed by the all-clear at 11:45am.
Another thing to remember this week: The Munich Adult Education Center (MVHS) has opened registration for its autumn and winter programs. Thousands of courses across languages, arts, professional development, and more – find the full program here.

Lost at the Hauptbahnhof? The city painted you a path
Yellow footprints are now on the sidewalks around Munich's main train station, guiding pedestrians to the city center. Two routes lead from the northern and southern exits along Arnulfstraße, Bayerstraße, and Schützenstraße to Stachus. A third route toward Goethestraße is in the works.
The project comes from the Bahnhofsviertel Task Force – a group representing the city, police, Deutsche Bahn, and local residents to make the station district safer and more livable. Construction around the station has made the area harder to navigate, and the footprints are a low-tech fix that cost very little and work immediately.

Got a question for the city? Call 115
Dial 115 in Munich and you reach a 27-person team that handles everything from garbage pickup complaints to Ausländerbehörde questions. The service has been running since 2012, celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, and currently handles around 13,400 calls and 2,700 emails per month.
The average wait time is 1 minute and 45 seconds. English works fine, and the team is multilingual enough to help in other languages where needed. Monday mornings are the busiest – Tuesday onwards is a smoother time to call.

No more takeaway beer after 10pm in the university district
Two kiosk owners in Munich's Universität have dropped their lawsuits against the city's nighttime beer sales ban. From September 4, all affected kiosks around Türkenstraße, Amalienstraße, and Schellingstraße in Maxvorstadt must stop selling alcohol to-go from 10pm.
Residents had been complaining all summer because of noise, broken glass on sidewalks, and public urination in doorways and courtyards. The situation had deteriorated to the point where Mayor Krause acknowledged it directly, calling for mutual consideration between students and residents.
The ban covers beer and bottled alcohol. Bars and restaurants with an on-site liquor license operate under separate rules.

Time for one of Munich's biggest free festivals
The IsarInselFest is back and this year it moves from Steinsdorfstraße to Praterinsel in Au-Haidhausen for the first time. The historic buildings of the former Riemerschmid distillery host the festival across multiple stages, the courtyard, the Orangerie, the root cellar, and the Prater beach. September 4 to 6, all FREE.
The program covers rock, pop, Bavarian folk, hip hop, jazz, Latin, cabaret, comedy, and dance – spread across four stages with walking acts on the grounds on Saturday and Sunday. There's also a family and children's stage with puppet theatre, clowns, and magic.

Bavaria's first vegan festival is coming to Munich
Vegan Beats takes over Bahnwärter Thiel on Tumblingerstraße this Saturday, September 5. Food trucks, live music, tattoos, lectures, animal rights merchandise, and an after-party from 10pm.
Tickets are €20 in advance and include an €8 drink voucher. A limited number are available at the door for €25. Anyone aged 16 and over can attend the main festival – under-16s are not admitted and under-18s must leave by 10pm.
Note: U3/U6 service is suspended between Sendlinger Tor and Implerstraße due to renovations. Bus 62 to Tumblingerstraße is the easiest option and is only two minutes from the venue.
