Summer break is finally here for over a million Bavarian students, but before the fun begins, there's one last hurdle: report cards on July 31.
For students with great grades, Businesses across Bavaria are rolling out the red carpet with free rides, discounts, and sweet rewards. Munich's educational support system is also stepping up, offering comprehensive counseling services for students and families who need support.

3 bits of news
Legal cannabis zone
We've got some pretty big news for anyone who enjoys a little green relaxation in Munich's most famous park. The Bavarian Court just partially overturned the cannabis ban in the English Garden.
While the southern part of the English Garden still keeps its no-cannabis rule, the northern section is now fair game for legal consumption.
Two local residents challenged the original blanket ban, arguing it was unfair especially when compared to tobacco smoking rules. The court agreed, at least for now.
The reasoning is pretty straightforward: The northern part of the English Garden is way more spacious and gets fewer visitors than the packed southern section.
The court figured there's less chance of bothering other park-goers up there. Meanwhile, the south side stays off-limits because it's always crowded and sits too close to places where kids hang out.
This decision isn't permanent though. We're still waiting for the main court case to wrap up, which will settle things once and for all.
New playground arrives
Lucky Star, the city's newest pop-up playground right behind the Olympic Village, will open its doors on Monday, August 11.
Shaped like a giant blue star, the structure rises from what used to be an empty construction site and is surrounded by basketball courts, beach volleyball areas and spaces for trendy paddle sports like padel and pickleball.
The mastermind behind this project is Michi Kern - the same guy who transformed the old postal hall into Pineapple Park. He's taken on the challenge of turning an unwelcoming construction pit into Munich's next must-visit destination.
Lucky Star offers something for all ages and is open daily from 10am to 10pm. There's a beer garden following traditional Bavarian rules, food trucks and live entertainment planned throughout the two-year run.

Women’s night taxi changes
We've got some important updates about Munich's Night Taxi program for women: The city council has decided to keep this popular safety service running, but with some new restrictions based on who can access the €10 vouchers.
Starting now, you'll need to show the IHK Chamber of Commerce specific documentation to get your hands on these discounted ride vouchers. We're talking IDs for students, apprentices and senior or disabled citizens, as well as Munich Pass holders.
The city had to make this call due to budget constraints, but they're committed to keeping women safe during those late-night hours between 10pm and 6am.
Here's how it works: Head to your local Bürgerbüro at the beginning of each month when they get their limited voucher supply. You can grab one voucher per visit, and there's even an emergency stash available at the Gender Equality Office in City Hall. Plus, they'll be handing out vouchers during the Oktoberfest Safe Wiesn campaign and at the 18.jetzt City Hall clubbing events.
One heads up – those green vouchers you might have lying around are now worthless. The new ones are a different color and expire on December 31, 2025.
Taxi drivers will get all the details about turning in used vouchers, and if a driver won't take your voucher, you can still submit it yourself with your receipt and get reimbursed.

1 new restaurant/café to try
Sababa
We've discovered something pretty special tucked away on Westenriederstraße that's been quietly serving up the best Middle Eastern food in Munich.
Sababa has been making locals and tourists alike completely rethink what authentic falafel and shawarma should taste like, and honestly, we can't stop talking about it.
Here's what makes this place different: Everything is made fresh daily using traditional recipes that actually come from the region. The falafel gets perfectly crispy on the outside while staying fluffy inside, made from chickpeas, fresh garlic, parsley, coriander and ground cumin.
Their shawarma features tender, spiced turkey strips that work beautifully on a salad plate or stuffed into warm pita bread. Plus, they're completely halal and vegetarian-friendly, so everyone can find something amazing here.
The staff creates that warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel like you're visiting family, even if the English isn't perfect. They also offer party catering services if you want to bring these flavors to your next gathering.
Fair warning though, this place gets packed, especially on weekends, because word has definitely gotten out about the quality. The space is cozy with limited seating, but the line moves fast thanks to their efficient service.
Also, Sababa is cash only, so come prepared, and don't skip the mint tea if you want the full experience.
