Here’s what we’ve got for you this week:
Munich has a new mayor. Dominik Krause (Greens) won Sunday's runoff, ending over 40 years of SPD rule. At 35, he's the youngest mayor the city has ever had. Congratulations, Bürgermeister Krause.
In other news, Easter break runs March 30 to April 10 – with public holidays on Good Friday, April 3 and Easter Monday, April 6.
This Friday, March 27, shops in the city center stay open late. Breuninger, Galeria, Ludwig Beck, Oberpollinger and more are open until 10pm. Full list of participating stores here.

3 bits of news
Munich's mountain bus is back
The BergBus is back from May 23 to October 25, running every weekend and on public holidays. Two lines, two trips each day – the 396 leaves from Ostbahnhof toward Bayrischzell and Thiersee in Tyrol, the 996 from Pasing toward Pfronten and Neuschwanstein Castle.
Seat reservation isn't required but recommended. The buses travel via the motorway so no standing room is allowed. Book easily via the MVV app or at mvv-auskunft.de. Dogs ride FREE.
Your Deutschlandticket is valid on both. A day in the Alps just got a lot easier and cheaper to plan. Find routes and timetables here.
Find more information here (in German).
Local public pools are getting a digital upgrade
Munich's 15 public pools and 10 saunas are switching to a new ticketing system. The big change: a new M-Bäderkarte that works both as a physical chip card and online, with real-time credit balance and digital self-service.
Outdoor pools switch first on May 1, indoor pools follow gradually through September. One thing to note: monthly pass sales pause completely in April – so if you need one, buy it before April 1 or wait until May.
If you have credit on your existing M-Bäderkarte, don't top it up with large amounts. You can transfer remaining credit to the new card from October 1 and get a free ticket as a thank you.
Free period starter kits are now available
Starting March 23, anyone facing financial barriers to period products can pick up a free starter kit at participating advice centers across Munich. Each kit includes a menstrual cup and/or up to two pairs of reusable period underwear. A brief consultation on use and care is included.
Period products cost money every single month. For 27% of menstruating people that's a real burden – and 40% of those aged 16 to 24 feel it even more. Reusable products last years, so one kit goes a long way.
The pilot runs for two years. Find participating advice centers and more details here (in German) and further information here (in German).
