This Saturday, July 11, Marienplatz turns into a hands-on first aid training ground from 11am to 4pm. The city's annual First Aid Day brings together the Munich Fire Department, the Red Cross, and over a dozen other organizations.

You can practice chest compressions on a mannequin, learn how to use a defibrillator and acquire skills to potentially save a life one day. No experience or registration needed.

3 bits of news

Did you know Munich has free walk-in health centers?

Munich runs five FREE health centers across the city: in Riem, Neuperlach, Hasenbergl, Moosach, and Freiham. No appointment needed, no insurance card, no German required. An interpreter can be arranged on the spot. Walk in, get seen and leave with answers.

Each location has a team of doctors, social workers, and healthcare professionals on site. They offer medical consultations, basic diagnostics, social counseling, and referrals. The services vary slightly by neighborhood, so it's worth checking what's available at the nearest location before heading over.

Everything is confidential and FREE of charge. For expats navigating the German healthcare system or anyone between doctors – this is worth knowing.

Find more information here (in German). You can also download their flyer in 14 different languages (just scroll down the page).

Munich residents, get ready for new apartments

Mayor Dominik Krause is consulting a conversion agency to turn vacant office spaces into apartments. The city has around 1.8 million m² of empty offices – roughly half the size of the Englischer Garten, sitting unused while rents keep climbing. The agency will identify vacant spaces and advise owners on feasibility.

A new federal funding program sweetens the deal: owners can receive up to €30,000 per residential unit if they decide to convert. The city council's building committee takes up the proposal next week, with five pilot projects already planned for later this year.

Converting offices isn't simple however, because every unit needs its own kitchen and bathroom, and vacant offices tend to sit on the outskirts where housing demand is lowest. Only time will tell how much of an impact this will have on the housing crisis.

In Partnership with finbird

It is our desire to bring our readers the best information about Munich — at zero cost to you. In keeping with this theme, we thank our partners for today’s newsletter. By just clicking the link below, you’ll support The Munich Post.

Here's what's happening right now: interest rates are still high, buyers have pulled back, and motivated sellers are sitting on properties they need to move. That's a window. Not forever, but right now.

When the market was hot, you competed against 30 offers and overpaid. Today, you have leverage. Fewer buyers means better negotiations, more time for due diligence, and sellers who will actually work with you on price.

The expats who understand this are already looking. The ones who don't will wait until rates drop, competition floods back in, and the window closes.

If you're even considering buying, now is the time to get educated on how the German system actually works.

finbird's free webinar covers exactly that. 45 minutes, plain English. Founder Daniela Kögel walks through:

  • The full buying process from search to notary to keys

  • How German mortgages are structured: equity, repayment, fixed-rate periods, KfW programmes

  • Real case studies from their advisory practice

  • Live Q&A where you can ask about your situation directly

Next session: 21 July 2026, 3 PM CET. Online, free, no obligation.

On the main stage, Zoe Wees and Madcon headline – the Norwegian duo behind Beggin who reliably turn any crowd into a dance floor. The peninsula stage runs a separate program for those who prefer something more electronic and low-key. Plus there will be street food to go with the show.
