Here’s our weekly roundup:
Remember last week’s drama about the 10pm beer ban in the University district? The city hit pause on the ban, not because they’re giving up, but because they’re trying a more “Munich” solution. Behind the scenes, All-Party Conflict Management (AKIM) and the Moderation of the Night (MoNa) have been working with locals for weeks to calm things down, and now officials are doubling down on the city’s own motto: “Live and let live.”
The aim is to balance fun for students and sleep for neighbors. Starting Friday, bottled beer will be sold from kiosks at night, but it's a trial. If chaos returns, bottled beers may be removed again.

3 bits of news
A Balinese escape – 20 minutes away
If a 16-hour flight from Munich to Bali feels like too much, you might soon get a taste of Balinese vibes much closer to home. The first Vabali Spa in southern Germany is opening in Olching in 2027, and a 70,000m² wellness retreat including 14 saunas, 6 pools, lake access, bars, massages, and even a hotel – basically a full-on wellness village.
You can turn it into a whole-day escape — visits can last up to 14 hours, with passes between €29.50 and €53.50 depending on how long you stay. It’s strictly adults-only and, yes, fully textile-free: saunas and pools are to be enjoyed in the nude, bathrobes on when you’re lounging or grabbing a bite.
Ladies caught short? Munich’s got your back
Finally some advertising we can actually get behind. Pop into clubs, cafés, or universities around Munich and you might spot small white boxes on restroom walls. What’s inside? Free tampons. Behind the program is LYFE.ads, a Munich startup tackling a very real issue even in Germany, namely access to period products.
Here’s how it works: brands pay to advertise on the boxes, which cover the cost of the tampons. Think of them as mini billboards that don’t just push ads but solve a problem many of us have faced – being caught off guard without period supplies.
We’re glad to see Munich stepping up in a space where resources for women are often overlooked. Want to see where you can find some? Check the “tampon map” here.

Autonomous wheelchairs at Munich Airport
Munich Airport is testing something straight out of the future: self-driving wheelchairs for passengers with reduced mobility. Since early August, two of these wheelchairs have been put to the test in Terminal 2 as part of a six-month pilot between Lufthansa and Aicher Airport Services. These wheelchairs are pretty high tech with sensors, collision avoidance, and a seven-hour battery life.
How it works: if you’ve registered with the airline’s mobility service, staff will help you onto the chair, stow your bag, and set your gate as the destination. From there, the wheelchair drives itself through the terminal at a speed of 3.5km/h. The staff will be shadowing your trip to make sure all goes smoothly. Once you are dropped off, the wheelchair will automatically return to its base.
For one of Europe’s busiest hubs, this could be a real game-changer in making travel more inclusive.

Munich’s favorite potato hunt is back in Daglfing next month. On weekends of September 12–13 and 19–20, you can grab a sack (5kg for €7 or 12.5kg for €13) and have some fun pulling fresh spuds straight out of the dirt. Whether you’re a fan of waxy Emanuelle or floury Talent varieties, Gut Riem has it all.
Sessions kick off at 9am or 2pm depending on the day, and it’s easy to reach by S8 (Englschalking) or by car. Fair warning: if the weather turns grim, the harvest gets pushed, so check the hotline before you go.

1 new restaurant/café to try
Madame Do
Schwabing has a new gem – Madame Do. We went here a few days ago because of its colorful and funky decor and left planning our next visit. This Vietnamese place is small but buzzing, and already pulling in a loyal crowd with its 4.8 stars.
What we loved the most:
Chili wantons that arrive just spicy enough with soft wrappers, punchy filling, and perfect for sharing (or not).
Bánh mì sandwich that hit the mark with tender, marinated pork and that signature crisp bread.
What makes it even better? There’s outdoor seating, vegan options and the prices are refreshingly down-to-earth, so you can enjoy a proper dinner out without wincing at the bill.
