Here’s what we’ve got for you this week:

Spring is here and Munich is doing what it does best – heading straight to the nearest ice cream parlor. This year's flavor trends: matcha, pistachio, and Dubai chocolate. Prices range from €2 to €3 a scoop depending on where you go. Full rundown here.

One more thing to mark in your calendar: clocks go forward on the night of Saturday, March 28 to 29, from 2am to 3am. You lose an hour of sleep but gain more screen time with the sun – definitely a win in our books.

3 bits of news

Getting around Munich this week is about to get complicated

The Verdi strike on Munich's MVG network ends Friday, March 20 at 4am – subway, tram, and bus lines are affected until then. The S-Bahn is running as normal. S-Bahns to Munich Airport are also out from March 19 at 9:30pm until March 23 at 5am as well as from April 13 at 10:10pm until April 17 at 5am. S1 and S8 are replaced by buses.

On top of that, from March 31 at 10:40pm to April 13 at 4:40am, the S-Bahn main line shuts down for Easter. Most S-Bahn lines run shortened routes – S4 only goes as far as Pasing, S6 to Heimeranplatz, and so on. S7 is the one line running as normal.

For the Easter disruption, the U5 between Hauptbahnhof and Ostbahnhof is a good alternative. In any case, planning ahead will be essential these days.

Deutsche Bahn is so late, someone turned it into a betting game

A Viennese artist named Caio van Caarven launched BahnBet on March 3 – a satirical web app where you bet on train delays using fake money. New users get €1,000 in virtual Caßh to place predictions on actual Intercity and long-distance train delays.

The response was immediate: over 150,000 visits in the first 24 hours. At the end of the month, top players can win actual vouchers and merchandise. Making it even more realistic, the data is based on real timetable information.

It's free and easy to navigate. So if you've ever stood on a platform watching your connection disappear, this is your revenge.

There's a half-price Rischart in Munich and it's expanding

Rischart's Gutes von Gestern concept is simple: day-old baked goods at half price. A butter croissant for €1.05, a slice of Munich cheesecake for €2.60, spelt bread for €6.35 per kg. The first branch on Baaderstraße in Gärtnerplatz already has queues out the door every morning.

Now a second one is opening at Trudering station at the end of April. Same concept: leftover baked goods from Rischart branches across the city, sold (still) fresh the next day at half price. Less waste, more savings.

Get there early before their delicious pastries sell out.

1 new restaurant/café to try

The Indian Room

Munich's Indian dining scene just got fancier. The Indian Room on Belgrad Straße in Schwabing is a full fine dining experience – think slow-cooked curries, tandoor-grilled dishes, and beautifully plated biryanis inspired by Indian royal courts.

It’s the kind of place where the food looks as good as it tastes. The menu covers a lot of ground: lamb shank in rich curry sauce, grilled paneer kebabs, punjabi yellow dal, and a cocktail bar that holds its own.

It's a sit-down, dress-up kind of spot that’s worth planning around. Reservations recommended as it can get busy. Tip: if you’re a sea food fan, definitely get the Tulsi Malai Jhinga.

📍 Belgradstraße 9, 80796 München
