Oktoberfest opens in exactly one month and for the first time, all beer tents are getting fiber optic internet. Mostly for orders and point-of-sale systems, but still, progress.
Speaking of Oktoberfest, if you've ever wanted to be an extra in a Netflix film, now is the time. A new romantic comedy is being shot at Oktoberfest and the Penzing film studios need thousands of extras from September to November.
Oktoberfest visitors, brass band musicians, fairground workers, and people in traditional dress – Dirndl and Lederhosen are not required, but it helps. Apply here.

Bavaria built a free parenting guide in easy language
BAER – the Bavarian Educational Guide is a FREE online resource from the Bavarian State Youth Welfare Office offering parenting tips. It covers health, childcare, family support, and more – all written in plain, easy-to-understand language.
The site is designed for everyone, but especially parents who are still getting to grips with German or navigating the Bavarian system for the first time. Browse topics by your child's age or subject.
The site is also available in sign language for deaf parents and caregivers.

Two AI companies just chose Munich
Two major AI companies picked Munich this week. Waymo – Google's autonomous vehicle spinoff is launching driverless taxis here by the end of 2027, making Munich its first EU city. While American AI company Sierra is opening its DACH headquarters at Odeonsplatz, targeting large companies across the German-speaking region.
Waymo's test vehicles arrive in the coming weeks, initially with trained drivers to map local traffic. Why? After 350 million kilometers and 20 million paid rides in the US, Waymo’s cars resulted in significantly fewer serious accidents than human drivers.
Sierra already works with a third of the leading banks and 40% of Fortune 500 companies, building AI agents that handle customer interaction, support, and product consultation.
Munich wants to host the Champions League final in 2028
Munich's city council approved a bid this week to host the next UEFA Champions League Final. The final would take place on May 27, 2028 at the Allianz Arena in Fröttmaning, with four days of events running May 25 to 28. UEFA's executive committee decides the host city in mid-September.
When Munich hosted the final in 2025, hotel occupancy was above 90% and generated around €46 million in tourism revenue. A Champions Festival and two fan meeting points in the city center are planned again.
The decision is UEFA's to make, but Munich is well-positioned. The infrastructure, security concepts, and event structures are already proven.

Before Where's Waldo? there was Ali Mitgutsch
Ali Mitgutsch was born in Munich and was the inventor of the search-and-find picture books. His 1968 debut “All Around My Town” came long before Where's Waldo? and spawned the entire genre. The International Youth Library in Bogenhausen is dedicating a full exhibition to his work from September 16 to March 21, 2027.
The exhibition covers over 70 years of work with original illustrations from his search-and-find books. Alongside never before seen paintings, drawings, and sketches.
Worth a visit for adults and kids alike. Admission is €4 for adults and FREE for anyone under 18.

De Lune is a Vietnamese fusion restaurant tucked away on Rappelhofstraße in Bogenhausen. The menu mixes Vietnamese roots with European influences: beetroot carpaccio with lime and walnuts, wonton with truffle mayo, duck breast with honey and pepper. Cocktails and drinks are part of the picture too.
