Here’s what we’ve got for you this week:
Get your winter wardrobe wish lists ready – Uniqlo is finally opening in Munich on November 6. After months of teasing and delay, the minimalist Japanese brand is launching right in the city center. After this much anticipation, expect opening-week chaos, long lines, and a lot of very stylish puffer jackets.
Meanwhile, Halloween is creeping up so if you’re open to trick-or-treaters, don’t forget to register your doorbell here.
Lastly, for those participating in the Münchner Marathon this Sunday, good luck for the race. We’re rooting for you! On the flip side, the non-runners should brace themselves for street closures and more foot traffic (pun intended).
Note: the festivities and some races will already start from Friday, October 10, and even if you’re not participating, you can still be a part of it for FREE.

3 bits of news
The world’s brightest young minds land in Munich
Oktoberfest may be over but Munich is about to go global again. From November 3–6, the city will host the One Young World Summit for the second time. This event will be bringing together more than 1,800 young leaders from over 190 countries to tackle issues like education, peace, digital responsibility, and the circular economy.
The opening ceremony on Monday, November 3, will take over Olympiahalle with what organizers call “Munich flair.” It will be a proper event with hip-hop beats, alpine horns, and the Münchner Kindl leading the way. Mayor Dieter Reiter will open the event, joined by well-known figures from business, politics, sports, and entertainment.
Munich residents can register for FREE tickets to attend the opening ceremony but spots are limited and only open to those 18 and older. Doors open at 6:30pm, with the event starting at 7pm. The evening will be held entirely in English, making it perfect for Munich’s international crowd.
If you’ve ever wanted to see what global change sounds like – this is your chance.

Two health updates you’ll actually use
From October 1, doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies across Germany will be required to use electronic patient records ePA. The goal is to end the era of paper folders, missing lab results, and “we’ll send a letter” energy. It’s truly the end of an era.
Think of the electronic patient record as your all-in-one health folder – digital, organized, and easy to find. It stores everything from doctor’s letters, lab results, and X-rays to vaccination records, medication plans, and discharge papers. You can even add organ-donor info, or your living will if you want the full picture in one place.
And yes, referrals and e-prescriptions can be tucked in there too – so no more digging through drawers before your next appointment.
If you’re publicly insured, your health provider will automatically set one up unless you opt out. Worry not, you will still have control. Doctors will upload everything directly (with your consent), and you’ll decide what’s visible, who gets access, and for how long.
The ePA is managed via the corresponding free apps which you can see here. No smartphone? No problem. The system can be accessed through your desktop too.
Meanwhile, Gesund in München just relaunched its website with new tools to help you find local doctors, therapists, and clinics – all in one place. Between that and the ePA rollout, Munich’s health scene is (dare we say it) finally entering the 21st century.

WhatsApp can finally translate but Meta is listening more closely than ever
If your friends’ group chat looks like the UN, this one’s for you: WhatsApp now has built-in message translations. Just long-press a text, tap Translate and voilà, instant clarity. It works across personal chats, groups, and even channels.
Android users can take it up a notch by turning on automatic translation for entire threads, so every future message arrives in your preferred language. All translations happen on your device (not Meta’s servers), so your privacy supposedly stays intact.
For now, it’s rolling out gradually – six languages on Android and 19+ on iPhone but expect more soon. Whether it’s your landlord texting in German or your mother-in-law replying in Hindi, your confusion just met its match.
But while one Meta hand is breaking down barriers, the other is busy building ad profiles. The company just confirmed that it will start using data from AI chats and smart devices to target ads. This means that if you as a user chat to Meta AI about hiking, you might be shown ads for hiking gear.
Unfortunately, according to Meta, there is no way to opt out of this. South Korea, the UK and EU are however spared from this policy because of their privacy laws. Still, it’s a gentle reminder that when a product is free, you’re probably the product.

Munich’s loudest night is back
If you think Munich’s music scene begins and ends with brass bands in beer tents, think again. Sound of Music Now is back on Saturday, October 11, turning Schwanthalerhöhe's Feierwerk into a five-hour, two-stage sprint through the city’s best sounds.
From 7pm, 20 local bands will play back-to-back on alternating stages – 15 minutes each, no breaks, no fillers. The genres will range from punk to dream pop, hip-hop to soul, noise to sci-fi disco. It’s the kind of musical chaos you want to attend.
And if you still have energy left, wander next door to Kranhalle for Sound of Bavaria Now starting at 8pm, where the Bavarian Pop Culture Association brings fresh talent like Aleyna, Danca, Jen Kova, and Nachtkinder to the stage.
Entry runs on a pay-what-you-can basis (card accepted), so you can support the local scene without breaking the bank.

Europe’s best street food is rolling into Munich
Forget fine dining – this weekend, the real flavor showdown happens outside. From October 10–12, the European Street Food Awards Final takes over Hirschgarten’s Pineapple Park, turning Munich into the continent’s tastiest battleground.
The best food trucks and pop-up chefs from across Europe will compete for the top title. There will be everything from sizzling skewers and loaded bao buns to whatever culinary brilliance fits on a paper plate. The twist? You get to help decide the winner. Visitors vote alongside the jury for who takes home the crown (and eternal bragging rights of course).
Consider your weekend deliciously taken care of.

1 new restaurant/café to try
Tribeca Cafe
Some cafés do one thing well. Tribeca in Nymphenburg does at least three – starting with their iced chocolate, which tastes like someone bottled childhood nostalgia and added style. Their perfectly brewed coffee and the star of the show: their quiche.
We tried all three. The quiche disappeared faster than we’d like to admit, and the friends we brought along? They went back the following week – which, frankly, tells you everything you need to know.
Inspired by the Tribeca district in New York, they serve everything from breakfast, lunch, all day brunch to snacks, cakes and even homemade ice cream. There’s both indoor and outdoor seating with cozy lights and comfortable sofas inside.
Remember to take along cash as cards are only accepted from 15€ onwards.
